Favorite fast food chains can boost hungry traveler's morale

Even the most adventurous travelers sometimes need a little comfort from home. Although countries throughout the world provide some exciting culinary options, tourists still gravitate to fast food chains to sedate their homesickness or to simply spot the differences in these types of eateries abroad. Recently, Zagat questioned more than 6,000 diners for their annual National Fast Food Restaurant Survey.

Many of the chains can be found is locations throughout the U.S. and the world. The top three preferred chains were Subway, McDonald's and Wendy's in the mega chain category. Five Guys and Panera Bread took first and second place respectively in the large chain group. When it comes to beverages, Starbucks was the favorite, with Dunkin Donuts and Culver's taking runner up positions.

Topping many of the categories was the mega chain McDonald's, including best value, best breakfast sandwich and best french fries. According to the organization's website, travelers can find this restaurant in more than 119 nations across the globe at more than 30,000 locations when they are craving some familiar food abroad.
